Divergent Boundary

hook: Contra mixer w/ opposite prog. for either role

formation: Becket mixer

Try to assemble dancers in sets with couples out at the bottom, to maximize mix-itude

Take the opportunity to discuss plate tectonics with the dancers, convergent and divergent boundaries, subduction/abduction and general oceanic lithography. Remind dancers that, if they choose to swap with the line next to them, they're creating a transform boundary and strike/slip faults can cause earthquakes if they're not careful.

A1 8
long lines forward & back

gentlespoons allemande right ¾
4
gentlespoons allemande left ¾ with next gentlespoons
A2 16
next neighbors balance & swing
B1 8
left diagonal ladles chain to next partners
8
ladles start a half hey - rights in center, lefts on ends
B2 16
partners balance & swing

There are several arguments on the progressive-ness of this one:
- For the gentlespoons, it's a single reverse-progressing (CCW) becket
- For the ladles, it's a single progressing (CW) becket
- From the perspective of the mixer, it's a "double progressing" becket, previous partners ending two minor sets away

If the sets have an even number of couples to start, dancers will only ever have half of the other role as their partner (but will still dance with everyone in the line, since the neighbor swing happens before the ladles progress) and return to their partner faster. With an odd number of couples, every dancer will be both neighbors and partners before getting back to their original partners.
