Defying Gravity

by: River

formation: proper

This dance starts and ends in proper but will almost immediately move to an improper formation. Couple #1 and Couple #2 should be identified, and make sure all the ladles are on the right when facing up the hall at the start of the dance.

With an advanced crowd, the roles of the 1s and 2s could probably be reversed every-other progression, this will cause a zigzag pattern that is probably too confusing for most weekly dances but might be fun at a weekend or for an advanced weekly crowd.

A1 8
long lines go forward, 1s cross the set 2s go back
8
neighbors swing
A2 8
gentlespoons allemande left 1½
8
ladles start a half hey - lefts in center, rights on ends
B1 16
partners balance & swing
B2 8
balance & petronella
8
couple #1s two-hand turn 1/2 counterclockwise, #2s cast up the hall

The couple #1s may need to move slightly down the hall while the #2s cast up to make space. This probably depends on where people cluster in the hall.

The name of the dance describes the cast up at the end hopefully counteracting the gravity of the Chicago weekly dance hall where we drift away from the stage :)
