The 1st ladle has a lot of action in this dance, but there's a simple rule: They're always the one being rolled away.

At the end of A1, the set is in proper formation, with all ladles in the left file and all gentlespoons in the right file.
In the middle of A2, the set is in cross contra formation, with all partners on the diagonal from one another.
At the end of B1, the set is in proper formation, with all ladles on one side and all gentlespoons on the other.
At the end of B2, the set is in improper formation.

If your hall does not have room for all to swing in the center, 1s only swing. If all are swinging, note that all couples need to end ready for the 1s to pick up new 2s (who should split) on their way down the hall.

Open chain: Instead of a courtesy turn, do a left allemande.

At the end of the star left in B1, the 1st ladle turns back and gives the 2nd ladle their left hand to be rolled away. The 2nd ladle continues their momentum: They will have technically advanced 4 places. Both ladles should end this facing their partner across the set.
