First, explain where people will be going: they will move up their own line, cross with their partner at the top of the set and then move down the other side. Then, explain how they get there: the top couple start off the move by joining right hands and then move past each other. They let go and stick out their left hands to join with the next person they meet. Everyone joins in the chain when someone joins hands with them. Once you’re in the chain, you keep joining right and left hands with people and cross over to the other side when you get to the top."

++ Dolphin Heys,: with #1 (now in the middle) the only one acting solo.
+++ Thread the Needle: All face UP& take hands. 2&3 arch, no.1 dives. Both ends go all the way around and back to place. After going through the arch twice, #1 must head for the windows to pull the line straight; #2 (the new #1) should be heading for the other wall.

Variation: I swapped the left/right allemandes so that no.1 is facing UP for a facing up Thread the Needle in B2.

The Slinky Walk variation

by: Moose Flores, Chris Page

introduces moves: slide along set, custom

formation: Becket

  • Designate ones and twos, then have each set turn 1 quarter to the left for Becket. Then verify that all the ones are on the same side. Ones progress leftward & down the hall.
  • It may help to walk through a colonnade once without arches, to demonstrate the paths, then add the ones' arch (left to left!)
  • Give the twos a chance to practice arching the colonnade during the walkthrough.

Ladles trade positions by left-shoulder pass through with ladle two going under the arch (and the arch moves!). Gentlespoons trade by left shoulders with gentlespoon two going under the arch. Ladles trade back by left shoulders; gentlespoons trade back by left shoulders. Each trade has 4 beats of music, so there's no need to rush.
