M.A.D. About Dancing

by: Robert Cromartie

introduces moves: balance

formation: improper

Starts in ocean waves, ladles in the middle taking left hands, neighbors taking right hands, 1s facing down

A1 4
balance wave right, then left
4
neighbors allemande right ½ (and reform wave with gentlespoons in the middle)
4
balance wave left, then right
4
gentlespoons allemande left once
A2 16
neighbors balance & swing
B1 8
circle left 3 places
8
partners swing
B2 8
circle left 3 places and step into original ocean wave ⁋
4
balance wave forward and back, and walk forward to new waves

The A1 balance LEFT then right is editorial; I think it flows better but as far as I can tell it wasn't specified in the original dance. (Also, experienced dancers often balance to the right here out of instinct, so either really emphasize the balance left or don't bother.)

Tom's Queue-less Carousel

by: Tom Hinds / Isaac Banner

introduces moves: slice, hey, meltdown swing

formation: Becket

A1 8
slice left and straight back and gentlespoons pull neighbor ⁋
8
neighbors swing
A2 8
circle left 3 places
8
partners allemande right 1½
B1 16
gentlespoons start a full hey - lefts in center, rights on ends left shoulder
B2 16
partners meltdown swing

Becket-ized version of Tom Hinds' The Carousel, but without the chunky feeling of long lines forward and back (technically the slice is almost lines forward/back, but dancers can ooze it a bit more, especially since it's a slice and take).

Queue-less, not clueless, because this time The Carousel has no lines. Unlike my program, which at the time had 5 LLFB and one just had to go.

B1 8

this dance is like one big square through along the set, with a little square through across in the middle. Dancers go one direction, across, back to where they started.

Composed September 11, 2012

Choreographer's notes:

Often, when we pull across by the right hand, if we hold on too long, it leads to ladles turning over their right shoulder, which is bad for e.g. a right and left thru. But in this dance, it's good flow for the ladles to keep turning right into the neighbor swing.
Teaching notes:
* B2 needs to be zippy. After the star 3 places, we've come to original place.
