Rick's Notes:

"The structure of this dance echoes the classic dance Petronella, with figures more in the style of modern urban contra dances. So it had to be "Metro"nella.

The progression is unusual but not difficult. After the B2 partner swing gentlespoons cross the set passing right shoulders, and all look to new neighbors to form a ring and start anew.

Here are two ideas for handling the walkthrough:

Start improper, with the first A1 balance the ring. Teach the progression at the end, saying that it actually happens at the beginning of the dance. Then start the dance with balance the ring twice.
Line up improper, everyone move one place to the right to make it Becket, and everyone shift left so you're across from the previous couple. Then teach the progression.

It's great to dance this to the actual Petronella tune if the band is up for it."

This dance holds a special place in my heart. I wrote it to commemorate my time in Louisville, KY when I realized I would be leaving. This was the last dance I called on a Monday night there before moving to Cincinnati, OH. Named after the famous line from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I spent seven years as a native in the Louisville Contra scene and nine in the Louisville folk dance scene in general. It's the place where I found my love of country dance and learned my craft as a caller and choreographer. It is, undoubtedly, one of the best dance scenes in the country, and I look forward to returning as often as possible.

Update: I moved back to Louisville in 2020, so I guess I get to return to dance there every week now.
