Author's Notes:
The transition from left hand star to allemande left is especially nice if a New England style (hand on wrist) star is used. This is the only dance I can think of for which I specifically request that type of star in those parts of the country where the default is hands-across.
Unfortunately, the origin of the name is lost in the mists of time. All I can say is that "Al" is not Al Olson, although had I known who he is when I wrote this, it might have been. Composed sometime around 1989.

Give and Take:

The primary version is the culmination of Ted's updates after
Zesty Contras was published. Ted had strong opinions about
traditional values and held tightly to them. Thus he was quite
emphatic: the way he did the dance was as given above.
However, above all, Ted was the most supportive man I have
known. His encouragement of me as a caller and
choreographer was unbounded, even to the extent of
supporting my programming the non-traditional version of
his dance. We miss Ted, badly.

Bob Fab notes: While it does not have waves at the sides, it has them in the middle so you can use it when the hall is too short for everyone to be in the same waves.

It is an excellent dance for incorporating a large group of beginners, because you hardly ever are without someone in your hand, and the storyline is nice.

Written one night when I left my cards on the kitchen table. Sent a friend

nameless for a couple of years till Robert Cromartie called it and afterward
Gene Hubert asked "What was the name of that Awesome Double
Progression Dance?"

or Steve Zakon-Anderson's Twirling at the Alter with the progression
moved from the hey to the circle, or David Zinkin's Becky's Becket
with a different A2.
