Rick's Notes:

"Ted Sannella was the first to use "Petronella turn" into "balance and swing" with someone from another ring, in his dance "Fiddleheads". This dance was written (before the craze for such dances!) to provide that experience for everyone rather than just the actives.

When starting the left-hand star in A1 it helps if the ladies take a look at the lady on the right diagonal so they know who to aim for when coming back around into the ladies chain.

When waiting out at the ends dancers should stand as a couple on the ladies' side of the set; in A2 they should participate in the ladies chain.

For Ellen Cohn of New Haven, Connecticut; raconteuse, natural dyer, gifted musician and singer, longtime Fiddlehead, and valued friend."

Bob Isaacs notes: The give and take figure originated from Larry Jennings, the great caller and writer from Boston. End the neighbor swing in shoulder/waist position, take two steps forward, and the gentlespoons take their partner’s hand and lead her to his side for a swing. Some “hard-to-get” playfulness usually goes along with this. In this dance the figure is a good alternative to circle L ¾, and in other dances can go to either side of the set.

This smooth-flowing dance was written by one top caller for the marriage of two other outstanding callers, Linda Leslie and Bob Golder, all of whom are from eastern Massachusetts.

For the organizers of Fall Has Sprung, the 12-hour dance in Grass Valley: Dan Skeahan, Eric Engels, Joyce Miller, and Lisa Frankel. You also get to see four of your neighbors each time through.

Some have suggested, in the B1, changing the pull by left to an allemande left 1/2. I prefer the timing with a pull by, but the allemande left 1/2 may be better in a crowded hall.
